About the Workshop
Set in the gorgeous 4 acre Walled Garden, originally created around 1830, now restored into a peaceful, well maintained and beautiful garden which is now a popular local visitor attraction and resource for horticulture, education and enjoyment.
The Walled Garden consists of two main areas, the fully working kitchen garden and the ornamental pleasure garden which are separated by a yew hedge. The site also includes a run of 8 fully refurbished victorian glasshouses, several outbuildings, 3 ponds and the gorgeous Apé Bars Café in the central glasshouse space.
Our workshop will be in the bright and airy schoolroom and adjoining glass house whilst looking out onto the spectacular gardens. On sunny days, we can get outside!
You will have the opportunity to bring along a piece of furniture (such as a chair, a stool, a small unit, picture frames, a small table etc.). Ideally, a piece of furniture with some bevelling or carving would allow you to try out the different techniques you will learn during the course.
I will explain all about the different paints available and the pros and cons of each, differing brushes, tools, materials and protective products required for effective and creative furniture painting.
I will teach you a variety of painting techniques including:
- One- coat distressing
- Multi-coat distressing
- Dry brushing
- Finishing and paint protection
You will be able to practice these newly learned techniques on a sample board (which will be yours to keep as a reminder) prior to painting your own piece. I will then discuss with you on a one-to-one basis your ideas and preferences for painting your furniture using your newly learned skills, and I will assist you (with as much or little advice as you would like) in transforming your piece into something wonderful during the second half of the day.
