About the Workshop

‘The Centre’ is a beautiful historic characterful building set in the heart of the stunning town of Poynton dating back to the 1850s. Poynton is a small thriving town with a village feel and high quality shops, bars and restaurants. Recreational walkways, cycle paths and bridleways have been formed along old colliery railway track beds linking to the Middlewood Way, the local canal network and the adjoining Peak District.

Our workshop will be held in one of the lovely bright and airy rooms within ‘The Centre’ historic building.

You will have the opportunity to bring along a piece of furniture (such as a chair, a stool, a small unit, picture frames, a small table etc.). Ideally, a piece of furniture with some bevelling or carving would allow you to try out the different techniques you will learn during the course.

I will explain all about the different paints available and the pros and cons of each, differing brushes, tools, materials and protective products required for effective and creative furniture painting.

I will teach you a variety of painting techniques including:

  • One- coat distressing
  • Multi-coat distressing
  • Ageing
  • Crackling
  • Stencilling
  • Dry brushing
  • Waxing
  • Finishing and paint protection

You will be able to practice these newly learned techniques on a sample board (which will be yours to keep as a reminder) prior to painting your own piece. I will then discuss with you on a one-to-one basis your ideas and preferences for painting your furniture using your newly learned skills, and I will assist you (with as much or little advice as you would like) in transforming your piece into something wonderful during the second half of the day.
