I’d love to welcome you to this one day (10 am to 3 pm) ‘DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop’ in the relaxed and friendly environment at The Village Hall in Cheadle.

Learn the wonderful art of upcycling (no previous experience needed) from scratch whilst making some new like minded friends in a relaxed, supportive and beautiful environment. The workshop is ideal for complete beginners, or for people who have tried their hand at furniture painting previously and would like to expand their skills.

You will have the opportunity to bring along and restore a piece of furniture, ideally a piece of furniture with some detail e.g. bevelling or some carving would allow you to try out different techniques (but don’t worry if it’s a plain piece).

I will explain all about how to prep your furniture before painting (it’s not as bad as you may think), the different branded paints available on the market and the pros and cons of each, differing brushes, tools, materials and protective products required for effective and creative furniture painting.

You will be using our gorgeous Re-Colour Furniture Chalk Paint during the workshop (provided), also available for you to buy after the day on this site (please select the button at the top of the home page ‘Buy Furniture & Paint’).

I will be there every step of the way to guide you and take you through the process at your pace. With such a small group, there is plenty of time for one to one discussion. Full workshop notes on paints, products and techniques and where to buy will be provided.

After the workshop you will be able to upcycle many of your own pieces at home having learned all about the different products and techniques. Please feel free to contact me after the day should you need any help or guidance.

The price includes lovely homemade cakes, cream scones, tea and coffee throughout the day. Lunch is not included in the price so please bring some lunch with you.

About the Workshop

I will teach you a variety of painting techniques including:

  • One- coat distressing
  • Multi-coat distressing
  • Dry brushing
  • Blending
  • Glazing
  • Ageing
  • Crackling
  • Stencilling
  • Waxing
  • Preparation
  • Finishing and paint protection

You will be able to practice these newly learned techniques on a sample board (which will be yours to keep as a reminder) prior to painting your own piece. I will then discuss with you on a one-to-one basis your ideas and preferences for painting your furniture using your newly learned skills, and I will assist you (with as much or little advice as you would like) in transforming your piece into something wonderful during the second half of the day.

Cheadle Village Hall, previously known as The Drill Hall was built for the Territorials in the 1920’s. A local person recalls them using it for drill on Friday nights. In its recent past, The Drill Hall was renamed the Village Hall. It is a lovely, welcoming and comfortable venue, perfect for our workshops.

For You to Bring

Please bring a piece of furniture to paint. Should you need any guidance with this, please get in touch.

Please bring some lunch with you.

Please come in comfortable clothing which you don’t mind getting marked or please bring an apron. Also please wear comfortable shoes.

Please bring along cash or have your PayPal and/or on-line Bank Transfer details ready should you wish to purchase paint, products and/or tools at the workshop.

Parking is available free of charge at the venue.

 

Cancellation Policy

In the event of cancellation by me, I will offer alternative dates or a full refund.

In the event of cancellation by you, I would ask for at least two weeks’ notice for a refund or transfer to an alternative date.
